Mango Taru Eatery in Bali Gutted by Fire

Mango Taru Restaurant & Bar – a Japanese-owned restaurant on Jalan Danau Tamblingan No. 82, in Sanur, South Denpasar, was destroyed by fire on the evening of Thursday, 17 October 2024. 

As reported by Tribun-Bali.com and Kompas.com, the fire was first detected by neighbors and staff who unsuccessfully tried to extinguish the flame before it spread to the building’s roof, which was constructed with thatched roofing. 

An explosion was heard moments before the fire engulfed the restaurant.

A spokesman for the Denpasar Police, I Ketut Sukadi, said on 18 October 2024 that a short circuit ignited the fire. Fortunately, no injuries have been linked to the blaze. 

The restaurant is owned by a Japanese national, Oguma Yoshihiko, who was in Japan at the time of the blaze. The fire started at 8:20 pm, and the fire brigade arrived at the scene at 9:45 pm. The fire was eventually brought under control by four fire trucks.

Equipment destroyed in the fire includes the Mango Taru Restaurant building, three freezers, four chillers, one coffee machine, one cash register, four blenders, one mixer, the restaurant’s sound system, a large number of tables and chairs, and a Toyota Agrya motor vehicle. 

The financial value of the damage and destruction is still being calculated.
