‘Dances & Fantasy' Padma Resorts Presents Two Nights of Outstanding Music in Legian and Ubud on Saturday and Sunday, July 13-14, 2019
In their continuing series of outstanding musical performance presented for Bali residents and visitors, Padma Resorts Bali will present a program titled “Dances and Fantasies” on July 13 and June 14th at The Padma Resort Legian and Padma Resort Ubud, respectively.
Padma Legian Resort – Saturday, July 13, 2019
Two Indonesian pianists of note, Hazim Suhadi and Alfred Young Sugiri, will jointly perform the compositions of Claude Debussy, Samuel Barber, Astor Piazolla, Wolfgang Amadeus Mozart, Greg Anderson, and Paul Dukas.
The Padma Legian Concert performance will also feature the special appearance of a multi-talented 35-year-old countertenor from Yogyakarta, Felix Avi. Calling upon his world-class mastery of a rare genre for the male voice, Felix will mesmerize guest with music by Henry Purcell, Francesco Durante, Stephen Foster, and George Friedrich Handle. Felix Avi’s appearance is exclusive to the Legian performance; He will not be performing on the following night in Ubud.
The Padma Legian Performance will open its doors at 5:00 pm for an hour of conviviality, wine and canapés before the concert begins promptly at 6:00 pm. The performance venue is the Padma Legian Resort’s Plumeria Grand Ballroom.
Cost for the evening is Rp. 300,000 net per person including pre-show drinks and canapés. For an additional Rp. 300,000 net per person guests can join a post-performance “meet and drink” dinner with the performers at the Resort.
Grade school students will be extended a 50% discount.
Padma Ubud Resort – Sunday, July 14, 2019
The piano duo of Hazim Suhadi and Alfred Young Sugiri will shift location to Ubud for another performance on Sunday, performing the same program presented the previous night in Legian.
The Ubud performance will take place in The Club Lounge on the 4th Floor of the Resort.
The Padma Ubud Resort concert opens its door 5:30 pm for an hour of wine and canapés with the concert commencing at 6:30 pm.
Cost for the evening of music in Ubud is Rp. 300,000 net per person for the concert including pre-show drinks and canapés. Rp. 588,000 net person will cover pre-show refreshments, the concert, and a “meet and greet the artists buffet dinner” following the performance.
Hazim Suhadi - Pianist
His early musical training commenced at the Yayasan Musik Jakarta (YMJ) studying with Yola Mathilde and the late Soetarno Soetikno. Uprooting to the U.S.A., Hazim attended Lawrence University in Wisconsin where he earned separate degrees in Francophone Studies and Piano Performance. In the USA his musical studies were mentored by Catherine Kautsky, Luba Poliak, Dmitri Novgorodsky, and Vadim Serebryany. Staying in Wisconsin, he continued his studies on a full scholarship earning a Master’s Degree in Piano Performance at the University of Wisconsin in Madison. In Madison he studied with Christopher Taylor, Jessica Johnson, and Martha Fisher.
Hazim has undertaken advanced studies in chamber music and musical accompaniment, working extensively as an opera accompanist.
Awards and achievements include a winning performance at the Lawrence University Symphony Orchestra Concerto Competition, UW-Madison Beethoven Piano Competition, two honorable mentions at the UW-Madison Woodwind-Piano Duo Competition, and winner of the Wisconsin Public Radio’s Young Artists’ Competition performing Poulenc’s “Concerto for Two Pianos” that formed part of a live broadcast.
Following his return to Indonesia, he has taught at both the Jakarta Arts School and Jakarta Conservatory of Music, while undertaking collaborative performances with the Resonanz Music School. Currently, he serves as the Head of Department of Music Theory and History in Jakarta Conservatory of Music.
Alfred Young Sugiri – Pianist
Working at the Konservatorium Musik Jakarta, Sugiri also serves as the Artistic Director at the Bandung Conservatory of Music. His classical training abroad includes stints at the Hoschschule fur Musik Detmold and Musikhochschule Lubek.
During his stay in Europe, he participated with distinction at leading music festivals including the Bach International Festival and Brahms Festival in Germany.
Closer to home, Alfred has won awards at the Universitas Pelita Harapan Piano Competition, the Indonesian Yamaha Piano Competition, and emerged as a finalist at the ASEAN International Chopin Piano Competition.
Felix Avi – Countertenor
Felix Avi pursuit of serious music began in 1999 when he joined the Volcalista Sonora Choir under the baton of Paul Widyawan and Karl Edmund Prier, SJ. He then supplemented his vocal training by studying the organ starting beginning in 2000 at the Center for Liturgical Music in Yogyakarta where he was instructed by Ibu Lelyana Soerna. In 2004, he undertook a course in musicology with a specialization in voice at the Yogyakarta Institute for Arts (Seni Indonesia Yogyakarta).
Felix also studied piano with Ibu Vivi Octavia S. Sn. from 2003-2007.
He has been tutored in singing and voice with Endand Ismudiati, Albertus Wisnu, and Ibu Jarmunak Yuharto, together with following many master classes in classical voice.
Felix received training in composition from 2015-2017 at the Universitas Kristen Satya Wacana in Salatiga.
He performs regularly as an organist and vocal soloist, while arranging music for choirs, vocal groups, and orchestras.
In possession of a rich baritone voice, Felix Avi is also an international-class counter-tenor with an extensive repertoire spanning more than 4 centuries of music. For those familiar with the uplifting and unique nuance of music performed in the mezzo-soprano vocal range sumg by a male voice as well as those unacquainted with the genre, a special night awaits those joining his Saturday, June 13, 2019 performance.
