Do Prisons Have ATM Machines?

Bali’s Kerobokan Prison Overflowing with Foreign ATM Scamsters

The State News Agency Antara reports that the number of cases of ATM skimming committed by foreign nationals in Bali is on the rise.

The head of Bali’s Kerobokan Prison, Tony Nainggolan, said on Wednesday, June 5, 2019: “The increase (in foreigners committing skimming) can be seen from the number of foreign prisoners entering Kerobokan. These criminal acts are often taking place in Denpasar, Badung and other place targeting ATM machines and stealing large amounts of money.”

The foreigners are involved in “skimming” with perpetrators dominated by Russians and Bulgarian. Those who have been handed down sentences are housed at Kerobokan together with a large number awaiting trial.

Those caught skimming are tried under cyber law Number 11 of 2008 with punishments handed down exceeding five years.
