Hard Landing in Lombok

Fly Bali Helicopter Makes Emergency Landing in Lombok on Sunday, July 14, 2019

A Bell 206 L4 helicopter operated under the brand Fly Bali owned by PT Carpediem Air performed an emergency landing on the perimeter of the Lombok International Airport mid-day on Sunday, July 14, 2019. The touring helicopter carrying pilot Captain Kustiyadi and three passengers Luka Maria (German), Nicholas Alexander (UK) and Donoso Lillo (Chile) performed a hard auto-rotate landing just outside the fence at the Airport on eastern end of runway 031.

As reported by indoaviation.co.id, the helicopter made its last contact with the Lombok control tower at 2:02 pm local time. One-minute later, after being cleared for landing, the helicopter crashed in an open field.

The three passengers and the pilot survived the crash, with a female passenger sustaining a broken leg that was treated at a hospital in Lombok.

Subsequent to the crash, the National Air Safety Board (KNKT) ascertained that the helicopter’s fuel tanks were empty at the time of the crash. Safety officials were unable to determine if the helicopter had run out of fuel or the tanks drained out at the time of the crash.

The actual cause of the crash remains under investigation.
