New Man in Charge at Garuda

Fuad Rozal Named Interim President Director of Garuda Indonesia to Replace Disgraced Ari Askhara

The Board of Directors of Garuda Indonesia on Thursday, December 5, 2019, issued a formal decision appointing Fuadd Rizal as interim President Director of the National Flag Carrier in addition to his current responsibilities as Financial and Risk Manager at the Airline.

As reported by the State News Agency Antara, the appointment of Fuad Rizal follows the sudden dismissal of Ari Askhara as President Director on the same day.

Announcing the Board of Director’s decision, Garuda’s Vice-president for Corporate Communications, Ikhsan Rosan, said that the interim appointment of Rizal will remain in effect until an extraordinary meeting of shareholders can be convened in the near future. According to Rosan, the appointment of an interim CEO guarantees that the Airline continues to operate according to established plans.

Meanwhile, the convening of an extraordinary shareholder meeting will be done in accordance with the Company’s bylaws.

“At this point in time, Garuda Indonesia wishes to emphasize that the Company will continually evaluate the ongoing operation of the business while committing to good management practice in accordance with the law,” said Ikhsan.

The appointment of an interim CEO for Garuda followed the dismissal of Ari Askhara as CEO by the BUMN Minister Erick Thorir when it was revealed that Askhara was involved in the smuggling of a vintage Harley Davidson Motorcycle and two Brompton folding bikes on a delivery flight of a new Airbus A330-900 NEO from Toulouse, France.
