Selfies on the Sea Shore Prove Fatal

Seaside Selfie at Nusa Penida is Fatal to Vietnamese Tourist

A 26-year-old Vietnamese tourist, Nguyen Hoang Hieu Dan, has drowned in Bali after being swept into the ocean at Klingking Beach at Nusa Penida, on Sunday, July 21, 2019 at 12:30 pm.

Bali Express reports that the victim was visiting the beach area with a female companion, Nhi Ngoc Quynh Nguyen (22), and was engaged in making a selfie photograph at the time of the incident. Facing away from the ocean while posing for the picture, he did not see the wave that swept him off his feet and into the ocean.

The mishap was witnessed by a local man, I Komang Agus Adi Kusuma (28), who tried to lend assistance. Managing to swim out to the Vietnamese man with an inflatable device, Kusuma saw a large wave sweep Nguyen Hoang Hieu Dan under the sea.

The man’s body was soon dragged to shore by rescuers and eventually raised up a 250-meter-high ocean cliff.

Medical authorities declared the man dead on the shore and his body was removed to the morgue of the Pratama Hospital in Nusa Dua.
