An inaugural flight connecting Penang, Malaysia, and Bali landed at Denpasar’s Ngurah Rai Airport on Thursday, 20 October 2022.
As reported by Beritabali.com, the AirAsia Airbus A320 (AK-1234) from Penang landed at 10:19 am carrying 77 passengers, departing on the return leg at 10:50 pm with 67 travelers on board.
The 3:35 minute flight connecting the two destinations will operate twice weekly on Mondays and Thursdays.
The general manager of Bali’s airport, Handy Heryudhitiawan, welcomed the opening of the new air route.
In September 2022, 87,567 Malaysian flew from Kuala Lumpur to Bali’s Ngurah Rai International Airport. According to Heryudhitiawan, during January – September 2022, there were 42,283 Malaysians who visited Bali.
Bali is now internationally connected to 23 destinations by 25 airlines.
Heryudhitiawan explained: “The highest traffic in September was on the Australian routes, serving 203,975 passengers. Followed by Singapore with 152,749 passengers and Malaysia with 87,567 passengers. With the addition of the Penang – Denpasar – Penang route, we hope connectivity with Malaysia will also increase.”
