Prabowo Advocates for Direct Indonesia-Russia Flights

BeritaBali reports that Indonesian President Prabowo Subianto is urging the establishment of direct flight and shipping routes between Indonesia and Russia. The Indonesian President’s recommendations were put forth while attending the 11th Eastern Economic Forum (EEF) at Far Eastern Federal University (FEFU) in Vladivostok, Russian Federation, on Thursday, 03 September 2026.

According to Prabowo, the growth of business ties between Indonesia and Russia requires strengthened institutional cooperation. Economic relations between the two countries should not rely solely on personal connections but must be underpinned by regulations and systems that provide certainty for business players.

”The task before us is to transform personal trust into institutional trust—clear rules, reliable payments, predictable logistics, and agreements that remain valid even when officials change,” President Prabowo stated.

Prabowo Proposes Vladivostok-Indonesia Shipping Route

Speaking in Vladivostok, Prabowo urged establishing a competitive direct shipping route between Vladivostok and Indonesia.

The Indonesian President underlined that maritime connectivity requires certainty on matters regarding schedules, costs, insurance, and cargo availability for voyages to and from both countries.

”I believe that at this forum, we can establish competitive direct shipping between Vladivostok and Indonesia—with predictable schedules, costs, insurance, and cargo in both directions,” he remarked.

“Ships Carry Goods; Planes Carry Friendship”

In addition to maritime transport, air connectivity is also a priority for the President. Direct flights between Indonesia and Russia are expected to strengthen people-to-people ties while boosting the mobility of tourists and business professionals. “Direct flight routes will bring Russian visitors to Indonesia and Indonesian visitors to the beauty of the Russian Far East. Ships carry goods; planes carry friendship,” said President Prabowo.

Expansion of Indonesia-Russia Cooperation

Prabowo noted that cooperation between the two nations offers scope for development far beyond the mere trade of goods. Sectors ripe for development include energy, food security, industrialization, space exploration, higher education, and transportation.

In the food and industrial sectors, Indonesia offers opportunities for collaboration in agricultural technology, superior seed varieties, livestock farming, agricultural mechanization, food processing, and fertilizer production.

Cooperation is also directed toward the downstream processing of various products, including food, pharmaceuticals, furniture, and electronics.

”So, I say directly to Russian companies: come to Indonesia, collaborate with us, manufacture with us; let us build industries together and create value together,” stated President Prabowo.

Indonesia Proposed as Gateway to ASEAN Market

President Prabowo also invited Russian companies to utilize Indonesia as a gateway to the ASEAN market and the Indo-Pacific region.

To bolster investment, Prabowo proposed that Danantara serve as a bridge connecting Indonesian and Russian capital. Danantara and the Russian Direct Investment Fund (RDIF) are encouraged to move beyond merely identifying opportunities and begin financing commercially viable projects.

Danantara Indonesia is an investment management entity that manages, optimizes, and develops Indonesia’s strategic assets, in alignment with the long-term agenda for national economic transformation.

”Danantara and Russia’s sovereign wealth fund, the Russian Direct Investment Fund (RDIF), can shift from identifying opportunities to financing investment-grade projects,” he said.

Prabowo also emphasized the importance of ensuring that every agreement resulting from the forum includes concrete targets. These agreements are expected to specify project values, financing schemes, and implementation stages. “Every announced agreement must specify its value, financing, and stages of completion,” asserted President Prabowo.
