Bali has lost a much-loved friend and tourism industry colleague with the death of Iwan Sitompul on Saturday, 13 February 2020, after a long-term illness.
Born in North Sumatra in 1952, Toruan “Iwan” Sitompul was widely known as a talented marketing and operations manager and consultant in Indonesia’s hospitality industry. At the time of his death, Iwan was 68-years-old, just three days shy of his 69th birthday.
Iwan Sitompul began his working career working in the 1970s and early 1980s with UTA French Airlines and in the oil industry in Kalimantan. During his four-decade career in the hotel industry, Iwan became a fixture at leading international travel marts worldwide representing various Indonesian luxury properties.
Most recently, Iwan worked as Managing Director of Andari Hotel Management. Previous assignments included Plataran Hotel and Resorts, co-founder of IwanHerman Hotel Consult, Coctinos Lombok Hotel Group, and Heritage International Hotel Management.
Iwan Sitompul was preceded in death by his long-time time life-partner and professional colleague, Herman Dienar, who died in September 2018.
