Indonesian Prosecutors have revealed how two Russian nationals, Anastasiia Koveziuk, a 26-year-old woman, and Maxim Tokarev, a 31-year-old man, used cryptocurrency to operate a prostitution ring in Bali.

As reported by Kompas.com, on Monday, 17 April 2025, Public Prosecutor Agung Satriadi Putra told a panel of judges in a closed court session how the two Russians were guilty of human trafficking by running a prostitution business in Bali.

Agung told the Court: “The actions of the two defendants violate Article 2, Paragraph 1 of Law Number 21 of 2007 on Human Trafficking in conjunction with Article 55, Paragraph of the Indonesian Criminal Code.

The Court transcript reveals Agung accusing Anatasia of serving as the CEO of the Bali-based prostitution business while Maxsim held the role of General Manager. A witness told the Court how a witness, known only by the initials KA, accessed a website offering illicit sex on 09 January 2025. Once on the website, KA selected a country and locations to access prostitutes providing specified services. The online system then offered a list of female sex workers and their mobile telephone numbers. In a transaction process managed by Maxsim, KA eventually selected a prostitute named Pamela.

Finally, in the early hours of Friday, 09 January 2025, Pamela met KA at the Koa Hotel in Canggu, Bali, after her client had transferred Rp. 5.5 million to Anastasia’s bank account.

Answering orders issued by the two defendants, Pamela provided sexual services to KA on 29 December 2024. In the past, according to prosecutors, Pamela had worked in Thailand as a commercial sex worker.

Continuing, Agung told the panel of judges that the two Russians had promoted prostitution services for US$300 to US$350 per session. The financial proceeds were then divided, with 40% going to Anastasia, 10% to Maxsim, and the remaining 50% to the sex worker Pamela.

To facilitate transactions, customers could choose to pay in cash, by transferring funds to a bank account registered in the name of defendant Anastasiia Koveziuk, or pay with cryptocurrency.

In addition to being charged with Human Trafficking,  the two Russians were also charged with violations of the National Pornography Law.
