S. Korean Dies on New Year Climb of Bali Mt. Agung

Kyung Dam Oh (31), a South Korean tourist has died while climbing Bali’s Mount Agung Volcano.

The man was reported missing on Wednesday, 01 January 2025, while climbing the mountain without the assistance of a mountain guide. As reported by Beritabali.com, a spokesperson for the Pasar Agung Temple, I Wayan Suara Arsana, confirmed the death, noting that the South Korean has adamantly rejected warnings that he should not attempt to climb the peak without being accompanied by a qualified guide.

Before losing his life on the mountain’s slope, Kyung Dam Oh had reportedly telephoned a friend in South Korea at 9:00 am WITA on Wednesday, 01 January 2025, from an elevation of 2,000 meters.

A search party of 23 people scouring the mountain found the South Korean’s body on Friday, 2 January 2025, at the bottom of a 100 deep meter ravine at an elevation of 2,200 meters where the ill-fated hiker had fallen to his death.

The man’s body has been transported to the morgue of Bali’s Prof. Dr. Ngoerah General Hospital to await final disposition.
