615 international tourists from various countries landed at 4:30 pm on Thursday, 01 June 2023, at Bali’s Ngurah Rai International Airport on the inaugural flight of an Emirates Airline A380 – Sumber Jumbo Jet from Dubai, United Arab Emirates (UAE).
Quoted by NusaBali.com, Bali Governor Wayan Koster said at the welcoming ceremony at the inaugural landing of an A380 in Bali: “This is a historical flight because it is (not only) the first but also signifies that Bali and the rest of Indonesia remain targets for international tourists. I hope other airlines flying to Bali will also use wide-body aircraft.”
Continuing, the Governor said the Province of Bali thanks the management of Emirate Airlines for deciding to use a wide-body airplane to fly to the Island. Governor Koster noted that the inaugural A-380 flight has made him optimistic that the number of international tourists traveling to Bali will continue to increase, even though Bali is only “partially recovered” from the COVID-19 pandemic.
In April, 1.5 million foreign tourists visited Bali on the way to a targeted 4.5 million international visitors for 2023.
Weeks of preparation were carried out by Angkasa Pura I – the managers of Bali’s Airport, preparing to handle the super jumbo jet aircraft with a wingspan of 79.5 meters and a length of 72.7 meters. A special handling bay was also prepared with a two-story passenger gangway connecting the terminal to the aircraft configured to embark and disembark a long-range plane carrying up to 615 passenger seats.
