Tourists Without Face Masks to Be Deported

Bali to Deport Foreigners Failing to Wear Masks During Lockdown Period.

The Emergency Limitations on Public Movement (PPKM-Darurat) for Java and Bali announced by Indonesian President Joko Widodo on Thursday, 01 July 2021, have prompted the Head of the Bali office of The Ministry of Justice and Human Rights, Jamaruli Manihuruk, to issue a stern warning to all foreigners residing in Bali to expect uncompromising sanctions if they violate health protocols that form a part of the presidentially-decreed lockdown.

As quoted by Balipost.com, Jamaruli warned: “In the past, our enforcement on public movements and activities was ‘soft,’ but during the period of the Emergency PPKM we will take firm action against foreigners disobeying the rules. In other words, we will deport them.”

Continuing, Jamaruli said the former punishment of an Rp. 1 million fine for foreign nationals committing infractions, such as failing to wear a face mask, no longer applies. Under the PPKM-Darurat situation, these individuals will be punished with deportation, he said.

“We are strict because this is an emergency. Foreigners who break the law will be immediately deported,” said the man in charge of all immigration offices in Bali.
