Truck-Stealing Brit Deported from Bali

Damon Anthony Alexander Hills, the notorious 50-year-old Englishman who stole a goods truck full of statuary in Kerobokan Bali before leading police and angry local citizens on a wild chase down the Sunset Road and the Bali Mandara Toll Road before crashing the vehicle and being arrested at Bali’s Airport – has been officially deported from Indonesia by police and immigration authorities.

Damon was arrested after a street chase on Sunday, June 10, 2024. He was escorted by police and immigration officials through Bali’s Ngurah Rai Airport and out of Indonesia on July 26, 2024.

Authorities interrogating the 50-year-old Damon Anthony Alexander Hills and investigating the case have determined the Englishman. who recreated scenes more apropos to the film and Play Station version of Grand Theft Auto, suffers from a severe bipolar disorder and decided to deport and blacklist the man rather than bring him before a criminal court in Bali.

Had Damon Alexander-Hills been referred for criminal prosecution, he might have faced indictments for grand theft auto, vandalism, and damage to other vehicles during his madcap and dangerous dash for Bali’s airport.

Authorities calculated that the man had damaged three motorcycles, two cars, and two statues loaded onto the truck. He also rammed the airport’s entrance gate, decorative pillars, and a toll gate.

Preliminary calculations placed the damage caused by Britain at GBP 7,225.

In stealing the truck, the man also aggressively manhandled the driver of the stolen truck, striking and pushing him out of the vehicle.

The head of the Immigration Detention Center (Rudenim) in Denpasar, Gravit Tovany Arezo, confirmed that the man had several psychological disorders. “Damon admitted he was afflicted by bipolar disease and had in his possession only one week’s supply of medications for use during his Bali holiday,” said Arezo.

As part of the man’s detention, he was examined at a local hospital and screened for evidence of drug and alcohol use,

Damon arrived in Bali on Monday, May 20, 2024, using a Visa on Arrival (VOA) and stayed at a hotel on Jalan Sari Dewi in Kuta before his arrest.

While in Bali, Damon Hill unsuccessfully applied for a visa to visit Australia. While still in Bali, he finished all the medications to keep his psychological condition in check.

Immigration officials reported that the British Man, without the benefit of his prescription drugs, began to hallucinate and become paranoid, convinced he was being followed. Such was the man’s unstable condition that numerous taxis refused his carriage when he tried to secure transport to the airport. This eventually led to him stealing a truck parked on the roadway and driving towards the airport.

In the course of the man’s apprehension and arrest, several angry local citizens administered street justice, beating the Englishman severely.
