After a year-long hiatus caused by the global pandemic, The Ubud Village Jazz Festival(UVJF) returns for its 8th edition 29-30 October 2021, headquartered at ARMA Museum in Ubud, Central Bali.
A showcase for outstanding jazz musicianship since its founding in 2013, a busy two-nights featuring 12 back-to-back performances will grace the stage at the ARMA Museum. While past festivals have attracted performers worldwide, the 2021 Ubud Village Jazz Festival has adopted a “closer to home” approach by inviting a dazzling array of top Indonesian musicians to entertain Bali aficionados of the jazz genre.
Jazz guitarist and UVJF Co-founder Yuri Mahatma, commenting on the many challenges of reviving UVJF in 2021, said: “And this most challenging time, as we must align with the current restrictions and preconditions and embrace the several relaxations provided by the national Covid-19 authorities. This year is very challenging because everyone – not only the organizers, but everyone involved in the Festival, including the musicians, crew, vendors, tenants, and venues operators must make sure the jazz presented is great and also that the people on stage and in the audience remain safe and healthy.”
Yuri said every effort would be made at UVJF 2021 to prevent the creation of new COVID-19 infectious clusters. Accordingly, organizers are urging everyone attending the UVJF to obey all health protocols.
Astrid Sulaiman, the renowned Indonesian jazz pianist commented: “Let’s put aside the pros and cons, it doesn’t take a high IQ to understand that when using public areas, ignoring health protocols may not only affect the people near you but on a larger scale, might ruin the economy of Bali which we have just started to rebuild from ruins.”
Festival Director and co-founder Anom Darsana, added: “We all must consider and realize that the relaxation we have now, the low rate of virus spread, is a blessing for Bali after two years of nationally being the worst hit by the C19 pandemic.”
