Air New Zealand re-established air service connecting Auckland and Denpasar on Wednesday, 29 March 2023, landing with 255 passengers in Bali.
Indonesian Minister of Tourism and the Creative Economy, Sandiaga Uno, welcomed the return of Air New Zealand flights saying the new service will fly three times each week on Wednesdays, Fridays, and Sundays.
Quoted by Beritasatu.com, Minister Sandiaga, commenting on the resumption of Air New Zealand flights to Bali, said: “The foreign visitors from New Zealand are quality tourists. They will always positively impact tourism and our creative economy through longer stays and higher spending.”
Sandiaga said the average New Zealand tourist coming to Indonesia stays 10.3 days, spending US$1,376. The Minister said these numbers rival European travelers’ spending and length of stays.
Before the COVID-19 pandemic, 131,000 New Zealand tourists visited Indonesia each year. “We are targeting that in 2-3 years, Indonesia will annually attract 150,000 New Zealanders,” said the Minister.
The Minister told the press that new international flight routes would soon be operated to Indonesia. Air Asia will commence a Jakarta – Phnom Penh, Cambodia flight on 19 April 2023, and Trans Nusa will start flights between Jakarta and Kuala Lumpur, Malaysia, on 14 April 2023.
Sandiaga added: “Currently, Sri Lanka Airlines has opened the route connecting Jakarta-Colombo operating seven times a week with 2,000 seats per week. It is also planned to open direct flights between Indonesia and India by Indi Go India flying Mumbai-Jakarta and Hyderabad-Kualanamu (Medan).”
