As Christmas and New Year approach, Bali’s I Gusti Ngurah Rai International Airport has, until 12 December 2024, received 445 applications for extra seat capacity or additional flights from seven domestic airlines.
As reported by NusaBali.com, most extras have been requested on the route between Jakarta and Bali to meet extra holiday demand.
The general manager of Bali’s Airport, Rai Ahmad Syaugi Shahab confirmed that, to date, extra flights have been requested for flights operating between Bali and Jakarta, Surabaya, Makassar, Lombok, Timika, Pontianak, and Banjarmasin.
On Friday, 13 December 2024, Shahab said, “The extra flights approved through 12 December 2024 for the Christmas and New Year totaled 445 flights with 81,841 seats.”
Breaking down the list of approved extra flights by each requesting airline, Shahab revealed:
Air Asia – 122 flights
Citilink – 78 flights
Garuda Indonesia – 30 flights
Lion Air – 87 flights
Super Air Jet – 88 flights
Pelita Air – 18 flights
Nam Air – 22 flights

Peak passenger demand is expected on the following dates:
20 December 2024, with 489 flight movements carrying 83,635 passengers.
26 December 2024, with 453 flight movements carrying 81,066 passengers.
29 December 2024, with 81,066 passengers.
02 January 2025, with 79,957 passengers.
Shahab commented that the extra flights had been adjusted to the airport’s operational hours and schedules, with some airline requests shifted away from peak operational periods to quieter periods.
