Beritabali.com reports that the Russian Embassy in Jakarta has announced plans to open a Consulate General in Denpasar, Bali.
The Russian Federation Jakarta Embassy’s Instagram Account @rusemb_indonesia confirmed plans to open a Russian Consulate in Bali. Beritabali.com also reports that the Prime Minister of the Russian Federation, Mikhail Mishustin, announced the coming opening in a social media upload on Saturday, 20 July 2024.
In response to the announcement, the Indonesian Ministry of Tourism and Creative Economy welcomed the plans for the new consulate, terming the news a “positive development.” Nia Niscaya of the Tourism Ministry commented during the weekly press briefing on 22 July 2024 that consulates are needed to deal with people-to-people, business, and economic affairs. Adding: “The presence of the Consul General will make communication with the Russian Embassy easier because they focus more on caring for their citizens. Suppose there is a problem or incident involving Russian citizens in Bali, for example. In that case, we can communicate more quickly and concisely, and the response from the Russian Embassy through the Consul General can also be faster.”
Nia also commented that she is hopeful that the new Russian Consulate General in Bali will help resolve the controversy surrounding the creation of a “New Moscow” in the Canggu area.
With the recent emergence of a “New Moscow” in Canggu, Bali, the Bali Provincial Tourism Office proclaimed he had no problem with people adopting such names, pointing out that in other areas, there are Little India’s, Chinatown, or “Paris Van Java” in Bandung. According to Bali tourism officials, the main issue is that all local and national laws are obeyed.
