The head of the Communication, Information, and Statistics Service for the Province of Bali has confirmed that they will suspend cellular data service and Internet TV Service (IPTV) on Balinese New Year. Service will cease from 6:00 am on Thursday, 03 March 2022, until Friday at 6:00 am in observance of Balinese New Year Day – Hari Suci Nyepi Tahun Baru SAKA 1944.
The announcement came via a press release from Gede Pramana, the head of the Communication, Information, and Statistics Service, on Sunday, 27 February 2022.
Following the practice of years past, cellular data and IPTV providers in the Province of Bali will turn off their services for the specified 24-hour period. The shutdown complies with a circular memorandum issued by the Minister of Communications and Information (Nomor 2 of 2022) and a letter issued by Bali’s Interfaith Council (FKUB) stipulating guidelines for Nyepi observances.
Hand Phones will be turned off across Bali with exceptions for “vital facilities” such as hospitals, the police, military, BMKG, Disaster Management (BPBD & BASARNAS), airports, and fire services.
Telephone SMS and fiber-optic services will continue over the 24-hour Nyepi period.
Pramana said that the government would socialize the limit of cellular and IPTV service for the subject 24-hours by sending SMS texts to the public before the shutdown. Adding: “I hope the public in Bali will understand and comply with the limitations that the government has set so that the celebration of Nyepi can proceed respectfully and solemnly.”
