According to the Minister of Tourism and the Creative Economy, Sandiaga Uno, the Presidential decree on the new Indonesian Tourism Fund is now being drafted for implementation in 2024.
As reported by the State News Agency Antara, Sandiaga said the Ministry of Finance would put the tourism fund in place. Based on instructions given by President Joko Widodo, the wording of the presidential decree is nearing finalization.
Through the supplemental funding provided by the Indonesian Tourism Fund, Sandiaga is hopeful that a new target of 14 million foreign tourists for all of 2024 can be achieved. To support this ambitious growth target, the government is preparing to provide visa-free access to Indonesia to the citizens of 20 countries in addition to the visa-free status already accorded to the citizens of 9 ASEAN member states.
The Indonesian Tourism Fund will also be used to attract quality international events. Sandiaga said the target will be met despite any momentary distraction caused by the national elections in February 2024.
On Friday, 08 December 2023, Sandiaga stated that the Indonesian Tourism Fund for the creative sector may reach Rp. 2 trillion annually.
The Minister of Tourism has promised to monitor the Tourism Fund to ensure the maximum positive impact on improving public welfare and creating employment.
The government will also focus on bringing tourism events to the five prioritized tourism destinations (DPSP) in 2024.
