Zicari’s companion, Biagi Ilaria, told police they had visited the waterfall at 11:15 am.

The couple had earlier inquired with an employee of the Villa located near the waterfall, who directed them to the waterfall located about 500 meters away from the Villa. The couple arrived at the waterfall at around 11:20 am. Overlooking the waterfall was a viewing area enclosed by an iron fence with a wooden bench.

While taking a “selfie,” the couple seemingly leaned against the fence, which gave way, causing them to slip and fall down the cliff.

Following the fall and after regaining consciousness, Biagi, who had also suffered cuts and abrasions, managed to climb back up the cliff to seek help for the unconscious Giancarlo.

Giancarlo Zicari was lifeless when rushed to a nearby health facility, where medical personnel declared him dead on arrival.
