The Mangusada Regional Hospital (RSD) on Jalan Raya Kapal, Mangupura, Mengwi, in Bali, has confirmed that it now stocks snake anti-venom for treating venomous snake bites.
Most hospitals in Bali do not stock anti-venom medication.
It should also be noted that there is no universal snake anti-venom.
RSD Mangusada is reportedly stocking BIOSAVE1 – a polyvalent anti-venom effective for counteracting neurotoxic venoms and some hemotoxic venoms for the following snakes (based on anti-venom manufacturers’ notes at the time of publication):

- Naha Sputatrix – Ular Sendok Java – Javan Spitting Cobra
- KingCobra – Ophiophagus Hannah
- Bungarus Fasciatus – Ular Welang – Banded Krait
- Malaysian Pit Viper – Calloselasma rhodostom
- Ular Tanah – Calloselasma rhodostoma)
- Green Pit Viper –Trimeresurus albolabris, the white-lipped pit viper or white-lipped tree viper,
- Bandolan Puspa – Daboia siamensis – Russel’s Viper
Caution is advised as no universal anti-venom exists,
The CEO of RSD Mangusada, I Wayan Darta, confirmed sufficient stock is in hand at the hospital to meet current patient requirements. “There are perhaps tens of dosages available, which is enough for now. I hope there are no fatal cases,” said Darta.

Throughout 2024, the anti-venom stock at RSD Mangusada has successfully handled several snakebite cases with no fatalities recorded. The hospital has also loaned anti-venom to other districts needing life-saving anti-venom treatment.
As reported by Beritabali.com, in 2025, there have been no reports of snakebite cases treated at RSD Mangusada. The hospital remains alert, especially during the rainy season when snake encounters with humans increase.
“Every year, we propose the procurement of snake anti-venom because the stock is difficult to obtain. Therefore, we always try to provide sufficient reserves,” Darta added.
In handling snake bite emergencies, RSD Mangusada has a set protocol for medical treatment. Patients undergo initial observation for the assessment of their condition; they are then given snake Anti-Venom to neutralize the poison, as necessary. If the patient’s condition improves, they are discharged to continue their recovery.

Stocking anti-venom at RSD Mangusada is a strategic step needed to deal with emergency cases of snake bites in Badung Regency for the community in Badung and surrounding ares. With guaranteed supplies, the community now has better access to emergency medical treatment for snake bites.
