The Provincial Administration of Bali has welcomed the inauguration and opening of the new Consulate-Genereal Building for Timor Leste located on Jalan Tukad Mas I/No.4 in Renon, Denpasar, Bali.
The official opening ceremony was held at the new Consulate on Saturday, 20 January 2024.
As reported by the State News Agency Antara, Provincial Secretary (Sekda) Dewa Indra said the new consulate-general office was more than a physical structure but also symbolized the commitment and the harmonic good relations shared between Timor-Leste and Bali. Dewa Indra also said the opening of the new Consulate also underlines the commitment felt by Timor-Leste to foster a close relationship with Bali.
Dewa Indra commented, “The decision to build the Timor Leste Consulate-General in Bali certainly has its strategic considerations. Bali is very pleased with the existence of the Timor Leste Consulate General in Bali,”
Bali plans to take full advantage of the opportunity to establish cooperation in the tourism sector, especially given the many emotional and cultural links shared by both nations.
In other areas outside of tourism cooperation, Dewa Indra said the potential exists for joint efforts in general trade, agriculture, animal husbandry, and fisheries that may benefit the people of Timor-Leste and Bali.
The Provincial Secretary also sees opportunities for cooperation in medicine, education, and banking. Bali has many excellent education centers, banking facilities, and international-standard medical facilities.
At the opening celebration in Denpasar, the Consul-General for Timor-Leste, Alexio de Silva, welcomed the suggestions detailing areas of possible bilateral cooperation from Dewa Indra to be explored further.
.The cornerstone for the new Consulate was signed by the Prime Minister of the Democratic Republic of Timor Leste, Kay Rala Xanana Gusmao.
