What it Will Cost to Self-Drive Jakarta to Bali

Kumparan.com has compiled a beneficial estimation of the cost of driving your car from Indonesia’s capital, Jakarta, to the island of Bali.

In recent years, new toll roads have been built or are in the process of construction that have hastened the overland travel time covering the approximate 1,186 kilometers of roads connecting the two destinations and, to a large extent, eliminating the numerous traffic jams in high-traffic holiday periods.

Traveling from Jakarta to Bali permits continuous toll road travel over 875 kilometers from the Nation’s Capital to East Probolinggo. From Probolinggo, paved highways lead to the Port of Ketapang, East Java, for the ferry crossing to the Port of Gilimanuk on Bali’s West Coast.

Here’s the approximate cost of travel by car (not including fuel) from Jakarta to Bali.

The total spent on toll fees from Jakarta to East Probolinggo comes to Rp. 944,000.

There are no toll fees from East Probolinggo to the Port of Ketapung (199 kilometers).

The car ferry from Ketapng in East Java to Gilimanuk in West Bali is determined by the vehicle size and the number of passengers. For calculation purposes, the ferry crossing ticket might cost Rp. 213,400.

While toll roads are being constructed from Gilmanuk to Denpasar, the capital of Bali, there are no further toll fees for the rest of the journey.

Cost of Gasoline: We estimate a sedan consuming 12 liters of regular gasoline every 100 kilometers would burn 121 liters, and the overland trip would cost around Rp 1.2 million for fuel.

If you haven’t nodded off to sleep yet, tolls, the estimated total for toll fees, ferry crossings, and gasoline to travel from Jakarta to Bali will set you back Rp—2,357,400 (US$151).

Did we mention nodding off to sleep? Remember to factor in the cost of meals and even a rest hotel while driving the minimum 18+ hours you’ll need to cover this distance, which is 1,186 kilometers.
