Several facilities comprising critical parts of the Sanur Health Special Economic Zone (KEK) opening by late 2024 have been completed.
Bali’s ad interim governor, Sang Made Mahendra Jaya, together with Minister of State-Owned Enterprises (BUMN) Erick Thohir, presided together with the Founder of the Alster Lake Clinic, Fred Fandrich, the Chief Director of Injourney Dony Oskaria, attended the opening of the respective enterprises at The Bali Beach Convention Center, on Tuesday, 30 January 2024.
As reported by NusaBali.com, Governor Mahendra Jaya expressed his appreciation to the Central Government for establishing the special zone at the groundbreaking for the Alster Lake Clinic.
Establishing the Bali Beach Convention and Alster Lake Clinic in Sanur’s Special Economic Zone is expected to increase employment opportunities and enhance Bali’s economic growth.
World Water Forum in Bali 18-25 May 2024,
Mahendra Jaya, the interim Governor of Bali, commented on 30 January 2024 that Bali will host the World Water Forum Summit (WWF Summit), which is expected to attract some 17,000 participants from 34 countries and leading international non-governmental organizations.
The Governor said he had heard from the WWF committee that they were discussing the new Bali Beach Convention Center as the alternative main venue for the WWF Conference. The organizers were reportedly very impressed with the Center’s high quality and position facing an open beachfront,”
In Dakar, Senegal, on 19 March 2022, Bali was selected by the WWC Board of Governors as the locale for the 2024 WWF.
WWF provides a platform where the global water community and critical decision-makers can collaborate in addressing global water challenges. The WWF will bring together participants from all levels and fields, including politics, multilateral institutions, academia, civil society, and the private sector. The theme of the 10th WWF in Bali addresses the theme of shared prosperity amidst the challenges of climate change and the increasing community needs.
Meanwhile, the Minister of State-owned Enterprises (BUMN), Erick Thohir, emphasized the importance of innovation in creating a sustainable tourism ecosystem through the Sanur Special Economic Zone (SEZ). “The Sanur SEZ can be a model for the development of such zones in other regions in Indonesia in creating an integrated health tourism ecosystem so that it can become a magnet for domestic and foreign tourists,” said Erick.
The SEZ Sanur consists of a Convention Center covering an area of 3,750 square meters and the Alster Lake Clinic featuring the latest medical technology.
SANUR SEZ
Erick said that this new facility in Sanur covers economic infrastructure while addressing sustainability and innovation in developing Bali’s health tourism ecosystem. The Sanur SEZ represents a milestone for Bali as an international sustainable tourism destination that can assist the revival of the tourism ecosystem and Indonesia’s economy.
Also, the Sanur SEZ will bring the best medical and wellness technology to Indonesia. More importantly, the entire area is targeted to be able to absorb around 43,000 workers. Meanwhile, Injourney’s Main Director, Dony Oskaria, said that the development of this convention restores the original vision of Sanur as a center for Meeting, Incentives, Conference, and Exhibitions (MICE) tourism destinations, which is also one of the largest convention centers in Bali with a capacity of 5,000 pax and has beautiful views with facing directly to the beach area.
The Sanur SEZ was established under Government Regulation Number 41 of 2022 as a strategic initiative by the Government to exploit the potential of the Sanur area as an international health tourism destination.
By 2045, the target for potential foreign exchange savings resulting from the development of the Sanur SEZ is Rp 86 trillion, with additional foreign exchange generation of Rp 19.6 trillion.
