Thohir: Bali Int’l Hospital to Open in April 2025

The Minister for State-Owned Enterprises (BUMN), Erick Thohir, recently said that the Bali International Hospital (BIH), operating at the center of the Sanur Special Economic Zone (KEK), will commence operation in April 2025.

Kompas.com quoted Thohir: “I have met Presiden Prabowo to convey an April opening date to him.”  Thohir said that during the 3 months of January to March 2025, the BIH would provide trial services to ensure all systems function correctly before the formal inauguration of operations in April.

As explained by the Minister, the 3-month trial operation will be carried out in three phases. The first phase in January will operate with stand-in patients but no official patient to ensure workflows and systems are operating correctly. In February, the second phase will handle selected “real patients.” March will be used for full-trial operations before the April opening.

“Hopefully, in April, I will meet President Prabowo and convey that BIH is ready for an early April opening,” said Thorir.

Thohir said the selections of doctors who will work at BIH would prioritize the employment of Indonesian doctors who have studied or worked as medical professionals abroad, a group he classifies as “the diaspora.” The government is extending special facilitation to members of the “diaspora,” facilitating the formal recognition of their overseas training and work experience.

Thohir chose not to disclose the number of diaspora doctors and medical specialists that the BIH has managed to recruit to work in Bali, except to say there was strong interest, with many applying to work at Indonesia’s newest and most sophisticated hospital. He said details of the diaspora hired to work at BIH and their CVs would be revealed after the hospital opens in April.

The Bali International Hospital has been constructed on a 50,000 square meter site and comprises four flours.

Minister Thorir declared that the construction of the hospital is now 97% complete, with 80% of the hospital’s equipment now fully installed. The hospital should be fully operational in the coming few weeks as the year ends.
