Throughout 2023, the number of domestic and international arrivals to Bali has gradually increased. Despite these growing totals, numbers still need to catch up to arrival numbers in the pre-COVID period before 2019.
Quoted by Beritabali.com, the Head of the Bali Provincial Tourism Office (Dispar), Tjok Bagus Pemayun, said that foreign tourists to Bali from January until 26 December 2023 totaled 5.2 million people. Meanwhile, domestic tourists numbered more than 9.4 million people during the same period.
Before the COVID-19 pandemic, in 2018 and 2019, foreign arrivals to Bali were 6.07 million and 6.2 million, respectively.
Meanwhile, in 2020, foreign arrivals dropped dramatically to 1,069.473, and at the height of the global travel downturn, they were down to a mere 51 people in 2022. On the comeback trail, 2022 saw 2.1 million foreign tourists land in Bali.
Domestic tourism arrivals to Bali in 2018 totaled 9.75 million, 10.5 million in 2019, declining to 4.5 million in 2020, 4.3 million in 2021, and 8.05 domestic visitors in 2022.
Pemayun explained that Bali is targeting 4.5 million foreign visitors in 2023, a number that was surpassed in December 2023 when arrivals passed the 5,2 million mark.
Because of the fast-developing situation, including an upsurge in new cases of COVID-19, Pemayun is unprepared to set or reveal targets for 2024. However, he believes that foreign arrivals in 2024 will exceed 5 million.
