60,000 X Increase in 2022 Foreign Arrivals

The Ngurah Rai Airport Immigration Office reports that foreign arrivals to Bali in 2022 increased by more than 60,000 times compared to totals for 2021.

Sugito, the Head of the Airport Immigration Office, told the State News Agency Antara that for all of 2022, a total of 2,176,004 foreigners arrived at Bali’s Ngurah Rai International Airport, while for the whole of 2021 – a year at the height of the COVID-19 Crisis – only 34 foreign nationals arrived at Bali’s airport.

Sugito said, “The total number of foreigners arriving at Ngurah Rai Airport increased 6,399,911.76% or more than 60,000 times compared to 2021. This increase is in pace with immigration policies intended to restore the national economy and tourism arrivals.”

Of the 2.1 million foreigners arriving at Bali’s airport in 2022, the largest group was Australians at 626,783, followed by Indian nationals at 184,792, Singaporeans at 131,470: and USA nationals at 111,495.

Sugito also revealed that in 2022 1,739,303 foreigners were arriving in Bali using visa-on-arrival or electronic visas (e-VOA).

Despite rapid growth in arrivals recorded in 2022, these numbers are still much less than the 6,206,884 recorded in 2019 before the influence of COVID-19 on tourism to Bali. Because of this, Sugito is optimistic that foreign arrivals to Bali will continue to grow substantially in 2023. This optimism is supported by an increase of 35% in year-end-holiday arrivals compared to the same holiday period in the pre-pandemic era.
