No Takers to Restart Int’l Flights to Bali

One week after the Indonesian government formally announced the reopening of Bali’s Ngurah Rai International Airport to international travelers, aviation authorities confirm that no airline has commenced the process necessary to resume flights to the Island.

Efforts to stimulate the return of international aviation to Bali, including an offer of discounted landing fees from Angkasa Pura I, have failed to bear any positive results.

Quoted by Beritabali.com, I Putu Eka Cahyadhi, the Head of the Airport Authority for Region IV that includes Bali, said on Friday, 22 October 2021: “Until now, there have been none (applications to land in Bali). We have not yet received a single request.” He continued, saying he hoped that the official reopening of Bali’s airport to foreign international flights would soon see foreign tourists return to Bali and restart Bali’s economy.

Taufan Yudhistira, the Stakeholder Relations Manager for Angkasa Pura I (PT AP 1), said the State-owned airport operator eagerly awaits airlines applying to fly to Bali. He also noted that no domestic or international airline had requested an international flight slot after more than nine days since Bali’s Airport was declared reopen to foreign flights.

Hoping to stimulate the return of international flights carrying foreign tourists, PT AP 1 has announced that no landing fees would be levied against scheduled flights by international airlines through 31 December 2021. From 01 January 2022 until 30 June 2022, landing fees for international carriers will enjoy a 50% discount on landing fees.

Despite this incentive, not a single airline has requested permission to resume Bali flights.
