Rubbing People the Wrong Way in Bali

A 29-year-old Ukrainian man, identified only by his initials VB, has been deported by Bali immigration officials in Bali after officials determined he was working as a masseur.

According to Kompas.com, the Ukrainian held a “foreign investment visa.”

The head of the Ngurah Rai Immigration Office, Sugito, during a press conference on Monday, 17 April 2023, said: “He had massage clients from several countries. He moved around, visiting his client’s location. He held a stay permit for investment but operated as a spa or masseur.”

The Ukrainian’s apprehension took place based on reports from the public and postings of videos on social media showing VB providing massage services to foreigners in Bali. Evidence in hand, an enforcement team from Immigration took the Ukrainian into custody.

Investigators say the man arrived in Bali on 04 February 2023 using an investors visa intended to allow potential investors the opportunity to establish a spa business in Indonesia.

In the past three months, Immigration officials in Bali have deported 76 foreigners for breaking immigration laws and being involved in activities deemed to represent a danger to public order, threaten the safety of the people of Indonesia, or be seen as disrespectful to Indonesian culture.
