While Mount Anak Krakatau Erupts, International Flights at Bali Airport Operate Normally
Kompas reports that the volcanic eruption of Mount Anak Krakatau in Lampung Province, South Sumatra, has affected flight operations in several regions, including Bali.
A total of 41 flights from I Gusti Ngurah Rai International Airport in Bali to Jakarta were canceled on Sunday, 06 September 2026. Nonetheless, the Ngurah Rai Immigration Office confirmed that immigration services and checks at the airport’s Immigration Checkpoints continued to operate normally.
No international flights to or from Bali were canceled as of Monday morning, 07 September 2026, with the sole exception of a flight to Dili originating at Soekarno-Hatta Airport in Cengkareng.
Based on monitoring by officials through Sunday, 06 September 2026, immigration processing at both the international arrival and departure terminals in Bali proceeded as usual. There have been no operational disruptions directly impacting immigration services at I Gusti Ngurah Rai International Airport in Bali.
The Head of the Ngurah Rai Immigration Office, Muhamad Novyandri, explained that his office is prioritizing the continuity of immigration services amid flight operational dynamics due to the day’s conditions. “We understand that this situation may cause concern, particularly for passengers affected by flight cancellations. Therefore, we have immediately made adjustments to ensure no passengers suffer administrative disadvantages due to circumstances beyond their control,” said Novyandri.
According to Novyandri, intensive monitoring is being conducted for all international flights, covering both arrivals and departures. This includes potential flight delays, cancellations, or diversions.
Although immigration services remained operational, the situation did impact one international flight to and from I Gusti Ngurah Rai International Airport: Citilink flight QG500 on the Denpasar (DPS)–Dili (DIL) route, carrying 94 passengers. That flight was canceled when the aircraft scheduled for the route could not depart from Soekarno-Hatta Airport in Cengkareng due to the continuing eruption of Mount Anak Krakatau.
Novyandri stated that Ngurah Rai Immigration had adjusted the border-crossing data for the 94 passengers in the immigration system, ensuring that administrative records aligned with the actual flight status. Officers also verified the residence permit status of all affected passengers; however, no instances of overstaying resulting from the cancellation were found.
Novyandri noted that these measures were taken in accordance with directives from the Directorate General of Immigration—specifically Letter Number IMI.8-GR.09.06-045 dated 02 September 2026, regarding the optimization of immigration checks during *force majeure events”—with a particular focus on the intensive monitoring of international flight activity and airport operational conditions. Novyandri emphasized that Ngurah Rai Immigration would continue its monitoring efforts and ensure that immigration inspection services remain a priority, while upholding security, order, and legal certainty amid evolving flight conditions.
