The Australian Air Carrier, Virgin Australia, has opened a new air route connecting Denpasar, Bali, and Canberra, Australian Capital Territory.
Service over the air route commences on Monday evening, 22 June 2026, at 9:02 pm when 165 passengers landed in Bali on a Virgin Boeing 737 MAX-8 on flight number VA 127. The same aircraft turned around at Ngurah Rai International Airport, departing at 10:39 pm with 68 passengers bound for Canberra as VA 128,
The State News Agency Antara quoted Nugroho Jati, Denpasar Airport manager, saying: “I Gusti Ngurah Rai Airport in Bali welcomes Virgin Australia’s inaugural flight from Canberra (CBR) to Denpasar (DPS). The opening of this new route also strengthens international connectivity with Australia.”
Nugroho Jati explained that the new Virgin Airlines route between Canberra and Denpasar is the revival of a previously operating service. Adding: “This demonstrates Bali’s strong appeal to Australian tourists.”
”This is certainly a positive signal regarding the increasingly close air connectivity between Bali and Australia, and is expected to have a positive multiplier effect on the tourism, economic, and other supporting sectors,” Nugroho Jati continued.
Virgin Australia flights between Canberra and Denpasar and Denpasar to Canberra will operate three times a week, operating every Monday, Wednesday, and Saturday, during the 2026 summer season.
The opening of the Canberra route brings the number of Australian destinations connected to the Island of Bali to 12. Direct flight connections from Australia to Bali, served by a variety of airlines, are available from Perth, Melbourne, Sydney, Brisbane, Adelaide, Gold Coast, Darwin, Cairns, Newcastle, Avalon, and Sunshine Coast, with Canberra as the newest route.
”The operation of this route also makes Canberra the 41st international route now served by Bali’s I Gusti Ngurah Rai Airport, with direct flights operated by 43 airlines,” said Nugroho Jati.
Between January and May 2026, a total of some 604,000 Australian tourists visited Bali.
