BeritaBali reports another suicide involving a foreign tourist in Bali. Most recently, a Dutch national identified by police with the initials MJR (60) was found dead at the Renaissance Bali Uluwatu Hotel in South Kuta, Badung Regency.
The incident took place on the night of Saturday, 12 September 2026. MJR allegedly jumped from the fifth floor of the hotel, located on Jalan Pantai Balangan in Ungasan Village, South Kuta District.
MJR’s body was discovered on an internal roadway within the hotel complex. Bali police opine that the incident may be linked to an unpaid hotel bill. According to a Denpasar City Police Public Relations Officer, First Inspector (Iptu) Gede Adhi Saputra Jaya, MJR died at approximately 10:14 pm.
CCTV footage from the hotel shows the victim heading toward a corner of the fifth-floor corridor’s safety railing. Police later found the victim on the ground below, having presumably jumped from the Hotel’s fifth floor.
The incident came to light after another foreign guest reported seeing someone lying on the ground to hotel restaurant staff.
”Hotel staff urgently reported the incident to the authorities and also contacted the ambulance service at BIMC Hospital Nusa Dua,” stated Iptu Saputra.
In the fatal fall, MJR sustained several injuries, including a fractured right wrist, an injury to the right elbow, and abrasions on the right side of the abdomen.
A preliminary police investigation revealed that MJR had been staying at the hotel since 16 August 2026. During the nearly month-long stay, management reportedly requested payment for accommodation costs on several occasions. However, the victim failed to pay his bill.
”It is strongly suspected that outstanding hotel accommodation fees triggered this incident,” Officer Saputra stated.
The Dutchman’s death and its surrounding circumstances continues to be investigated by police.
