Scan and Tan at Bali’s Sanur Beach

The established Bali beachside Sanur Community is embracing the government-sponsored PeduliLindungi Smartphone Application intended to prevent the spread of the COVID-19 virus.

The program’s launch from the Sanur Community and the Denpasar Government was marked with the symbolic scanning of a QR Code on Sanur Beach on Thursday, 30 September 2021. The event was attended by Denpasar and Sanur Community officials, including the traditional chief of Sanur, I.B. Paramartha, and the Head of Transportation for Denpasar, I Ketut Sriawan.

During the PeduliLindungi Application launch in Sanur, Paramartha cited the Application as a means to protect both visitors and residents of Sanur from COVID-19 infection. For this reason, the Sanur Village Community, in cooperation with the local government, has installed signs featuring PeduliLindungi Barcodes at the main entrances to Sanur Beach and Matahari Terbit Beach.

In addition, the Bali Village Community has also posted bar codes to be scanned when interfacing with customers/clients of local traders, parking attendants, and Nusa Penida-destined boat operators.

The large number of barcodes in various locations across Sanur is intended to prevent unintentional gatherings of people waiting to use the Application. “If a visitor has not yet scanned the barcode at the beach’s entrance, they will have the opportunity to do so with parking attendants, traders, or ship operators,” explained Paramartha.

The Sanur Village official estimates the visitor capacity of the beachside community is 15,000 people covering an area stretching from the traditional village of Intaran to Padanggalak Beach in Kesiman.

The Head of Denpasar’s Transportation Service, Ketut Sriawan, detailed the additional barcode scanning points in Sanur Community is due, in part, to the large number of sea transportation terminals for local ferries to Nusa Penida.

Sriawan said the use of the PeduliLindungi Application would soon be expanded to other beach areas in Bali.
