Australian Citizen Sought by Indonesian Immigration, Nabbed at Bali Ngurah Rai Airport
NusaBali reports that an Australian national, identified officially only by the initials BA—who allegedly appeared in a viral video featuring an indecent act—was intercepted by Ngurah Rai Immigration Officers attempting to leave Bali on Tuesday, 25 August 2026 at 12:00 noon.
Earlier, BA had been placed on the Immigration Department’s “Subject of Interest” (SOI) list to facilitate officer checks when the individual passed through the Immigration Checkpoint (TPI). The Head of the Ngurah Rai Immigration Office, Muhamad Novyandri, stated that upon learning of the video, the Immigration Intelligence and Enforcement Team (Inteldakim) immediately conducted an investigation.
Simultaneously, Immigration Officials also coordinated with the North Kuta Sector Police to verify information and the sequence of events. Based on data searches, including facial recognition technology and the Immigration Management Information System (SIMKIM), officers identified an Australian national suspected of involvement in the incident. Immigration then entered BA’s data into the SOI list.
”Under this system, officers can immediately conduct an inspection if the individual passes through an Immigration Checkpoint (TPI),” Novyandri said in a statement published on the afternoon of Wednesday, 26 August 2026. This preemptive measure taken by Immigration ultimately paid off when BA passed through the Ngurah Rai Airport Departure Terminal on Tuesday around noon, where the automated immigration system signaled an SOI match.
The Ngurah Rai Immigration team then moved to apprehend BA. Officers coordinated with Immigration Staff and the Badung Resort Police. BA was subsequently handed over to the Badung Police Precinct to undergo legal processing.
A female Australian national also suspected of being linked to the illicit video has yet to be located. Meanwhile, regarding the possibility of BA’s deportation, Immigration authorities are awaiting the handover process from the Badung Police Precinct. “We are still awaiting the handover from the District Police,” Novyandri said.
Separately, the Director General of Immigration, Hendarsam Marantoko, stated that any information from the public regarding alleged violations of the law by foreign nationals would be acted upon swiftly, including coordination with relevant agencies.
“Safeguarding national sovereignty begins with securing every entry and exit point of Indonesian territory. Immigration will continue to strengthen oversight—leveraging intelligence, technology, and inter-agency collaboration—to ensure that potential violations are detected and addressed quickly, accurately, and in accordance with the law,” Marantoko explained.
Hendarsam also commended the excellent coordination established with the Indonesian National Police in handling the case. According to him, the spirit of “Immigration for the People” is realized not only through excellent service but also by ensuring that the monitoring of foreign nationals’ presence is conducted professionally. “We urge the public to play an active role in reporting suspected immigration violations or criminal acts committed by foreigners in their vicinity via official Immigration channels or the nearest immigration office,” he emphasized.
