Bali to PNG Twice Weekly by Citilink

Citilink – the low-cost subsidiary of the National Flag Carrier Garuda Indonesia, has opened a new international flight service connecting Denpasar, Bali and Port Moresby, Papua Niugini.

The twice-weekly service commenced operations on Sunday, 02 July 2023, when QG 598 left Denpasar at 04.00 (WITA), landing at Jacksons International Airport in Port Moresby at 11:00 am local time.

The CEO of Citilink, Dewa Kadek Rai, cited the new air service as a historical moment for Citilink, the Republic of Indonesia, and Papua Niugini. “Citilink represents the first Indonesian airline to operate direct flights connecting Indonesia and Papua Niugini.” Stated Rai in a written press release issued on Sunday, 02 July 2023.

The Vice-Chairman for the Inter-parliamentary Cooperation Committee (BKSAP) from the Indonesian House of Representatives (DPR-RI), Putu Supadma Rudana, said the new air bridge connecting Indonesian and Papua Nuigini has been long awaited by the peoples of both countries.

“In the past, people from Papua Niugini wanting to travel to Bali had to transit through Manila, Singapore, or another foreign port. But now there are direct flights to Indonesia via Bali,” said Rudana.

The New Citilink route operates two round trips per week on Thursdays and Sundays, connecting Denpasar and Port Moresby. Citilink is operating Airbus A320 aircraft between the two cities.

The Citilink flight schedule on Thursdays and Sundays:

QC 599  POM-DPS  Departure  1200  Arrive 14:55

QG 598  DPS-POM Departure  0400  Arrive 11:00

The head of the Provincial Tourism Service for Bali, Tjok Bagus Pemayun, said he hoped the new international flight will help the Island achieve its targeted 4.5 million foreign tourists in 2023.  Through 22 June 2023, Bali has welcomed 2.2 million international travelers.

The new Bali-PNG route operated by Citilink increases to 30 the number of direct international flight routes operating to or from Bali’s Ngurah Rai International Airport by 36 airlines.
